Society of Local Government Managers of Alberta

The Society of Local Government Managers of Alberta (SLGM) is a registered regulated professional association representing professionals in local government management. Founded in 1988 and registered under the Professional Occupational Associations Registration Act in 1991, the SLGM focuses on the professional practice of its members and the educational programs provided to all local government practitioners by post-secondary institutions and works closely with the Faculty of Extension, University of Alberta and Dalhousie University to ensure their programs meet the Society’s core competencies.

The SLGM voluntary credentialing program recognizes professional local government managers qualified by a combination of education and experience, adherence to high standards of integrity, and an assessed commitment to lifelong learning and professional development. Managers are recognized by the SLGM through a peer review process. Members who participate in this program may earn the professional designation “Certified Local Government Manager” “CLGM”.
